1978 Fangio vs Brabham
Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Juan Manuel Fangio, considered by many to be the greatest F1 driver of all time
This video clip from Sandown Park in Australia shows an invitation race between Fangio in the W196 Mercedes Benz and Jack Brabham in his Repco Brabham plus the Maserati 300S of Bob Jones and the Cooper of Bill Patterson. Fangio declined to drive in a demonstration and said he would be racing. It’s clear from the clip that he was trying hard and he received a standing ovation on the last lap
