In 2001 Jacques Potherat organised an annual vintage meeting at l’Autodrome de Linas-Montlhery just south of Paris. Known as Vintage Montlhery this, for me, set the standard by which all old-car events must be measured
Monthery is a veritable time-capsule with the banked track fundamentally unchanged since it was built in 1924. The track was extended in 1925 with a huge loop out into the countryside. The track now disappears off into the trees giving the site a mystical ambience quite unlike any other track save, perhaps, for Brooklands
2001 proved to be the last year Jacques would organise his event. I asked him if he was coming to Vintage Prescott later in the year. He looked at me with sadness in his eyes and shook his head. He died just a couple of days later, on the 26th April, following a long illness
