Brooklands
Brooklands was constructed in 1907 and was the first purpose-built racetrack in the world. Conceived and funded by Hugh Locke-King, the circuit cost £150,000 to build and took 2000 men nine months to finish. When complete the outer circuit was 3.25 miles long including 1.25 miles of banking - which was up to 30 feet high in places

Brooklands Banking
Brooklands is under threat from developers
Brooklands racetrack and museum are again under threat from developers. Much of the historic banking has been destroyed over the years, but the heroic efforts of the Brooklands Society, Museum staff and unpaid volunteers mean that many of the original buildings have been restored and are now open to the public.

Part of the land within the perimeter of the old circuit has recently been sold to the Prudential. For them it is merely a property investment and they have proposed building works that will totally change the appearance of the Brooklands Museum and Clubhouse area.

You can help to help save Brooklands by sending a letter to the local planning authority objecting to the proposed development. Below is a letter circulated by Brooklands - to send it, just enter your email address below and press Send. Please tell other people about the campaign by using the Tellafriend button in the sidebar
